DONUTS
Makes 25 to 30 donuts
and 25 to 30 round balls.
1/3 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 2
eggs, beaten 1 cup milk 4 cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg oil for frying
In an electric mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and
blend. Mix in the milk. Combine the remaining dry ingredients, and
gradually mix in at low speed until dough is well blended. Chill dough for
one hour. Roll into 1/2 inch thick batches and cut with a doughnut cutter.
Heat oil to 350 f. Fry doughnuts one minute on each side until golden
